Weeley Crematorium, Essex

Pre-contact stage

Allman Woodcock are appointed as Employer’s Agent and Quantity Surveyors by the District Council.

The Council’s crematorium at Weeley has two cremators which are nearing the end of their economic life and the Council are replacing these with new units and to make provision for mercury abatement equipment either now, or in the future. Upon completion of mercury abatement, the crematorium will be upgraded to meet current legislation.

The Council’s preferred procurement route is for a design and build contract led by the cremator manufacturer. In addition to the building contract the Council requires that the successful tenderer also undertakes a 10 year maintenance contract.

Allman Woodcock assisted the Council in the appointment of the design team, preparing programmes and risk registers, and the preparation of Employer’s Requirements. Procurement followed the OJEU process, which includes the publication of a Contract Notice, seeking expressions of interest and Pre-Qualification Questionnaires. Allman Woodcock also sought references on behalf of the Council and, following short listing, have sought tenders for the project.

The works on site are due to commence late 2014 and be completed towards the end of 2015.
